Mr. Moad's Wild Ride

"Calling All Hodophiles!"

A fun, social, Sunday morning "recovery ride" through our favorite routes! 35 miles max.
The pace is cooler, the route less torturous and refreshments typically follow the ride.

Mr. Moad's Wild Ride is our Sunday ride and, typically, a recovery ride for Mr. Moad. What you do with it is up to you. With, of course, the caveat, "if you ride off the front and get lost, you're on your own"!

This is an intermediate, no drop ride which means we'll not leave anyone behind, or even solo off of the back. There will be "sprint worthy" segments  but we'll regroup occasionally in order to keep the group together.

The ride begins in Lake County and often loops around "the Barringtons". Afterward, there is typically socializing and the sharing of beverages and snacks. Bring a folding chair.

When the weather, and trail conditions permit, MMWR may switch to an off road venue such as Paul Douglas Forest Preserve, Silver Lake Park, Atwood Mountain Bike Park, CamRock, John Muir or the "Far Side". Please check back weekly either here, or at our Ride With GPS club page, for the latest ride info.

For those who can make it, see the 'Details' below or click RSVP Now! It helps us know how many riders are planning on showing up.

    Remarks

    • Guest riders - If you invite and bring non-member guests, YOU are their ride leader. It's your responsibility to marshal your guests and stick with them.
    • Self support - You're On Your Own. Bring what you need for nutrition, hydration, mechanicals, and punctures. There is no SAG, there may be no food, and there may be no services.
    • No Drop ride - Though gaps may open up, we'll not outright drop anyone who can hold the advertised average pace. We'll keep visual contact as much as possible. Please be prepared to maintain the advertised pace for the entire distance. Off road riders may ride off on their own.
    • Pace groups - By consensus and based upon fitness, and ability. If you want to try this ride and you're unsure if you can keep the advertised pace, message the Host/Ride Leader and discuss your concerns.
    • Foul weather cancellation - Rides are rarely cancelled. When they are, the call is made morning of. Confirm status here, or on our RWGPS Club Page, prior to traveling to the start.
    • Safety - Helmets are required. Off road riders may wish to apply additional protective padding, ie: full face helmet, chest, elbow and/or knee pads.
    • Personal responsibility - Ride at your own risk. This ride is not supported, there will be no SAG, there may be no food, and there may be no services (i.e. toilets). Obey the law. Be aware, be safe, and don't do anything stupid! However you conduct yourself, any consequences of your actions are your sole responsibility.
    • Self-awareness - Know your threshold, and know your abilities as some may find this ride challenging. For reference, to hold an average pace of 15mph, your rolling speed must be 17-19 mph for the entire ride.
