Ride of Crankenstein
"Abbey Normal"It's Saturday morning and time to get animated!
Join us on a fast paced training ride through Lake and McHenry Counties!
The Ride of Crankenstein (RoC) is our normal Saturday ride.
This is an intermediate, no drop ride which means we'll not leave anyone behind, or even solo off of the back. Though there may be some spicy intervals, we'll regroup occasionally in order to keep the group together.
The ride begins in Lake County and often loops through McHenry County. As such, it may include some challenging hills. Regulars will find familiar faces and newcomers will make fast friends of this crew. A stop for beignets may be on the agenda depending on the "route du jour"!
For those who can make it, see the 'Details' below or click RSVP Now! It helps us know how many riders are planning on showing up.

Remarks
- Guest riders - If you invite and bring non-member guests, YOU are their ride leader. It's your responsibility to marshal your guests and stick with them.
- Self support - You're On Your Own. Bring what you need for nutrition, hydration, mechanicals, and punctures. There is no SAG, there may be no food, and there may be no services.
- No Drop ride - Though gaps may open up, we'll not outright drop anyone who can hold the advertised average pace. We'll keep visual contact as much as possible. Please be prepared to maintain the advertised pace for the entire distance.
- Pace groups - By consensus and based upon fitness, and ability. If you want to try this ride and you're unsure if you can keep the advertised pace, message the Host/Ride Leader and discuss your concerns.
- Foul weather cancellation - Rides are rarely cancelled. When they are, the call is made morning of. Confirm status here, or on our RWGPS Club Page, prior to traveling to the start.
- Safety - Helmets are required.
- Personal responsibility - Ride at your own risk. This ride is not supported, there will be no SAG, there may be no food, and there may be no services (i.e. toilets). Obey the law. Be aware, be safe, and don't do anything stupid! However you conduct yourself, any consequences of your actions are your sole responsibility.
- Self-awareness - Know your threshold, and know your abilities as this ride is challenging. For reference, to hold an average pace of 15mph, your rolling speed must be 17-19 mph for the entire ride.
